Description
Located 60 km from Taroudant, the Inoumar Collective Granary (Agadir, Igoudar) is one of the most remarkable and well-preserved granaries in the region. For centuries, these fortified structures served as secure storage for villagers’ most valuable possessions, including notarial documents, jewelry, grain harvests, olive oil, festive clothing, and other precious belongings. Considered the ancestors of modern banks, these granaries were guarded day and night to prevent theft and ensure the safety of stored goods.
The Inoumar Granary, dating back nearly 1,000 years, remains in exceptional condition. The site was actively used until the year 2000, and today, the son of the last guardian holds the key, offering visitors an exclusive guided tour through its history. With 295 compartments safeguarding the treasures of 13 surrounding villages, this rural heritage site provides a fascinating insight into the ingenious communal storage traditions of the past.
